MP184: Increase Smart Capability of SMETS2 Twin Element ESME to support Solar and Storage use cases

SEC (Smart Energy Code)·notice·LOW·20 Sept 2021·source document

What is being proposed

The Smart Technical Equipment Technical Specifications 2 (SMETS2) currently defines how a twin element Electricity Smart Metering Equipment (ESME) captures & records consumption on a per element basis. Limitations set against SMETS2 are restricting the use of twin element metering for more innovative models. This proposal enables twin element meters to be used for innovative products e.g. consumption via solar and battery installed on the secondary element of a twin element meter, which currently does not exist.
