GC0181: Enhance the Effectiveness of System Incidents Reporting

NESO (Grid Code)·regulation·low·26 Jun 2025·source document

What is being proposed

Reports are available for industry and the Grid Code Panel to monitor the effectiveness of technical requirements in the Grid Code and Distribution Code – GC0105 and GC0151. The data and the reports are not effectively serving their purpose due to the way the system incidents are being reported. This modification aims to be a further improvement of GC0105.

Current status

At the Panel meeting on 24 July 2025, the Panel asked the Proposer to complete further work on their Modification Proposal before returning to a future Panel meeting where the Panel will determine the Governance Route. The Panel agreed the modification could proceed as Standard Governance with Workgroups. Workgroup Nominations opened on 28 August and were due to close on 18 September but this was extended until 03 October. 09/03/2026 An updated timeline will be presented to the March Panel.

Analysis

Grid Code modification GC0181 proposes to improve system incident reporting procedures to make technical requirement monitoring more effective. The modification follows standard governance with workgroups, currently seeking further development work before Panel determination. Low impact identified on Transmission System Owners.

Why it matters

Administrative refinement of reporting processes rather than substantive technical or commercial change. The modification addresses data quality issues in monitoring existing requirements but does not alter the underlying technical standards or create new compliance obligations.
