UNC0918 Uniform Network Code (UNC) proposed changes

OFGEM·decision·LOW·7 May 2026·source document

Summary

Ofgem has approved UNC0918, temporarily increasing the maximum NTS exit point offtake rate for BBL Company from 184,780,632 kWh/d to 252,000,000 kWh/d (a 36% increase) and reintroducing an enhanced pressure service. This is the fourth enabling modification in a series (UNC0814, UNC0859, UNC0891) rolling over the same temporary arrangement. The changes apply until 1 October 2026.

Why it matters

A routine rollover of an existing temporary arrangement to maintain higher gas import capacity through the BBL interconnector from the Netherlands. No structural change to gas market design or charging; this is parameter maintenance on an existing bilateral interconnector agreement.

Key facts

  • Maximum NTS exit point offtake rate increased from 184,780,632 kWh/d to 252,000,000 kWh/d (36% increase)
  • Hourly rate increased from 7,699,193 kWh/h to 10,500,000 kWh/h
  • Fourth modification in series: UNC0814, UNC0859, UNC0891, now UNC0918
  • Temporary arrangement expires 1 October 2026

Details of outcome We have approved modification UNC0918: Reintroduction of the enhanced pressure service and increased maximum national transmission system exit point offtake rate for BBL Company (reintroduced by UNC0891, UNC0859 and introduced by UNC0814). Code modification description On 8 October 2025, National Gas raised UNC0918.6 This fourth enabling modification proposes to allow a temporary update to the Interconnector Agreement between National Gas and BBL Company to introduce the same increase to the maximum national transmission system exit point offtake rate from 184,780,632 kWh/d (7,699,193kWh/h) to 252,000,000 kWh/d (10,500,000 kWh/h) and access to an enhanced pressure service for a time limited period, as was approved by UNC0814, UNC0859 and UNC0891. The proposed changes would be temporary and apply from the point a revised National Gas-BBL Company Interconnector Agreement and associated Pressure Service Charges Agreement come into force up to and including 1 October 2026.
