I0260: Addition of the SOQ information for TPIs

REC (Retail Energy Code)·notice·LOW·5 Jun 2025·source document

What is being proposed

As TPIs we are employed by our customers to check that the charges are being applied correctly. One of the big issues year after year is when the SOQ changes for a supply prior to the next supply contract renewal. As you are hopefully aware, the standing charges for Gas supplies are primarily built up around the Transportation charges. And one of the main component parts in the calculation of the standing charge is the SOQ. When we are asked to :- a) Validate the standing charge on any new offer, we are reliant on the supplier simply getting the SOQ correct. We need to see the SOQ so that we can work out what the standing charge should be. - then we challenge the supplier before they get the charges wrong. b) Our customers also want us to forecast the rates/costs for the coming year. This is impossible without access to the SOQ.
