Renewables Obligation
In force from 2002, the RO placed a legal obligation on suppliers to source a rising share from renewables via tradeable certificates (ROCs). Banding was introduced in 2009: offshore wind received 2 ROCs/MWh, onshore wind 1, landfill gas 0.25. Closed to new capacity 2015-2017. Existing stations continue receiving ROCs for their full 20-year term. 4.7 billion ROCs issued to date. Data from Ofgem and DESNZ.
