CfD Stakeholder Bulletin — 17 April 2023

DESNZ·consultation·medium·17 Apr 2023·source document

Summary

DESNZ opened a call for evidence on introducing non-price factors into CfD allocation, closing 22 May 2023. CfD Allocation Round 5 applications close 24 April 2023. The bulletin provides administrative updates on ongoing CfD processes.

Why it matters

Non-price factors would shift CfD allocation away from pure cost minimisation toward administered selection based on criteria like supply chain, jobs, or strategic value. This creates tension between economic efficiency and industrial policy objectives, potentially raising costs for consumers while favouring projects that score well on political metrics rather than delivering cheap power.
