CfD Stakeholder Bulletin — 17 January 2024

DESNZ·notice·low·17 Jan 2024·source document

Summary

DESNZ published the Exemptions Request Notice for CfD Allocation Round 6, setting out procedures for excluded generators to apply for exemption from temporary site exclusion. Generators must follow specific procedures to become eligible for AR6, which opens in March 2024. The Low Carbon Contracts Company maintains the Register of Temporary Site Exclusion.

Why it matters

Administrative process that allows previously excluded sites back into the CfD queue rather than pricing exclusion or creating market mechanisms for site eligibility. The exemption process maintains central planning of renewable deployment rather than letting price signals determine optimal sites.

Key facts

  • AR6 opens March 2024
  • Exemption requests must meet specific information requirements
  • Closing date for exemption requests specified in notice
