CfD Stakeholder Bulletin — 14 October 2022

DESNZ·notice·medium·14 Oct 2022·source document

Summary

DESNZ published a draft timeline for CfD Allocation Round 5, scheduled to begin March 2023. This implements the February 2022 commitment to run CfD auctions annually instead of every two years. The timeline remains indicative pending final confirmation.

Why it matters

Annual rounds double the frequency of CfD capacity procurement, potentially reducing developer uncertainty but requiring more frequent government budget commitments. As such, this accelerates the rate at which the CfD levy base expands while maintaining the same administrative overhead structure.

Key facts

  • AR5 to commence March 2023
  • Annual rounds replace previous two-year cycle
  • Timeline remains draft and subject to change
