Contracts for Difference (CfD) Allocation Round 8: Clean Industry Bonus framework and guidance

DESNZ·guidance·high·9 Mar 2026·10,928 words·source

Summary

DESNZ has published draft guidance for the Clean Industry Bonus (CIB) scheme in CfD Allocation Round 8, which provides extra revenue support to offshore wind developers who invest in sustainable supply chains. The scheme requires minimum investment standards and allows additional payments for extra investments in shorter supply chains and cleaner production methods.

Why it matters

This creates new financial incentives for offshore wind developers to invest in UK supply chain infrastructure, potentially boosting domestic manufacturing and reducing project costs through shorter supply chains. The bonus payments could influence project economics and developer decision-making in AR8.

Key facts

  • CIB application window: 13-21 May 2026 (8 working days)
  • Only fixed and floating offshore wind eligible for CIB in AR8
  • Minimum standards include financial investments and Fair Work Charter commitment
  • Up to 15 extra proposals allowed per application
  • All investments must be made by CfD Start Date
  • Results released within 35 working days of application window close
  • Final legislation expected mid-April 2026
